Displaying Your Model Car Miniatures Posted By : Victor Epand
11/02/2008 - By Admin

Collecting model cars is a very interesting hobby that can consume a good deal of spare time and space if it is pursued properly. An excellent way to pass time model collecting can help you to clear your mind and relieve a bit of stress. Miniature model cars are no exception. There are actually a few benefits to collecting these mini masterpieces that you might not realize when first considering them as an option.

With a miniature you will save a good deal of space. Referring to miniature here means anything that is classified as 1:64 scale. While some manufacturers may classify their cars in this scale they can actually vary in range from slightly bigger down to 1:1000 just depending on the vehicle itself. Any way you look at it this size model saves space due to its small size. It also means that the cars can be a good deal more affordable.

When you get ready to display your collection of miniature cars you will have quite a few options thanks to the size. You can hang knick knack shelves on your walls and place your cars in each of the respective cubbyholes. This will keep your display as simple as possible. If you are looking for a bit more eye catching display then you should consider building a diorama to suit your new miniature passion. A diorama can be easy to build and can most certainly display your model cars in a suitable manner.

Dioramas are depictions of scenes whether real or imaginary. They might be a cityscape or a campground site. They may include miniature people, plants, and animals in any combination that you choose. Built as a means of showcasing model vehicles and properly depicting scenes, dioramas have been around for a long time. By choosing this method you will also be able to help keep the art of building them alive. While there are those who are very passionate about diorama building their numbers have dwindled and it is in danger of becoming a lost skill.

If this is the method you chose for you model cars then you need to know what scale your diorama needs to be to match your model car. This makes it much easier if you need to buy materials or if you are purchasing ready made parts. At 1:64 scale a model car will match up with S scale in the model train scale. This is also know as 3/16th in scale as well. Armed with this knowledge you just need to know what sort of scene you intend to build and how many cars will go into it.

The number of cars and the type of scene will help you to decide just how big you want to build your display. It can range anywhere from the size of a shoe box to as big as you could possibly want to go. Some modelers have built their displays bigger than a ping pong table. This is one decision that you will have to make also based on space and monetary constraints also. With the extra money you will have saved by collecting these miniature model cars you can easily sink more into your method of displaying them. The only real constraint will be that of a limited imagination. Happy collecting!
